Spider Monkeys

Spider monkeys have long arms and legs and  long prehensile tails, which means they can wrap them around branches to help them move around in the trees . The International Union for the Conservation of Nature  lists 9 species of spider monkey, it lists 3 species as Critically Endangered; 5 species as Endangered, and 1 species is Vulnerable. The two major threats to spider monkeys are habitat loss and hunting by humans.
Spider monkey habitat loss is mainly caused by timber harvesting in the rain forests, as well as the clearing of forests to make way for agriculture.

  1. Spider monkeys are pretty cool. I never knew that there were 9 species of spider monkeys. I thought there was just one call the the spider monkey, but i guess i was wrong. If these monkeys were to play a sport i think they would be good at basketball because of their long arms and legs. I don't really get why a person would want to hunt a monkey and what would they even do if the killed one. Keep up the good work Joey!
